If you’ve seen my previous reviews, you’ll know that I prefer tools that offer a smooth user experience.

Within seconds, KWFinder will take you to a detailed keyword report page.
The page also contains essential keyword metrics you can use for analysis. Some examples are the keyword difficulty rating, search volume over time, and a long list of keyword ideas.

- Fast built-in SERP analysis – When inspecting the search results for your keyword, KWFinder quickly fetches crucial metrics like Domain Authority, Facebook shares, and traffic. The tool also analyzes Google’s page two results onwards with just one click – allowing you to get heaps of keywords.
- Search between different keyword types – KWFinder makes it easy to find keyword ideas based on Google Autocomplete suggestions and questions. This allows you to obtain keywords that are optimized for specific searcher intent, leading to more conversions.

If Keyword Revealer simply isn’t powerful enough for you, perhaps SEMrush will get your attention.
SEMrush is one of the biggest names in the SEO analytics game. In addition to keyword research, it will also help you with in-depth site audits, competitor research, backlink analysis, and more.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve used SEMrush as my go-to SEO tool for years. Despite that fact, I know that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
How to use SEMrush for keyword research
Since we’re talking about Keyword Revealer alternatives here, let’s just focus on SEMrush’s keyword research features.
Let’s start with the Keyword Magic Tool.
To use it, enter any seed keyword relevant to your niche and select your location.
SEMrush will immediately show you a list of keyword ideas along with important metrics, like search volume, CPC, and difficulty.
Apart from keyword suggestions, you can go to “Keyword Overview” to get some more insights on your target keyword. This includes the keyword’s ad performance history, search interest, global search volumes, and more.

- All-In-One SEO platform – If you invest in SEMrush, you no longer have to pay for any other SEO tool. It has everything you’ll ever need to orchestrate a full-on SEO campaign, including keyword research, backlink analysis, and competitor research.
- Get insights on your website’s organic traffic – SEMrush lets you identify your top keywords, organic competitors, most popular content, and so on. This enables you to decide where to double down your efforts and maximize your results.
- Keyword Gap tool – SEMrush’s Keyword Gap tool can help you find overlapping keywords between you and multiple competitors. At the same time, it helps you discover competitor keywords you aren’t targeting yet.
- Content Analyzer – SEMrush can monitor the performance of your blog content in terms of traffic, shares, rankings, backlinks, and more. This will help you create and refine your content formula based on metrics that matter.
SEMrush Cons
- A bit pricey – Unfortunately, there’s no way to purchase SEMrush’s keyword research tools separately. If you only really need a keyword research tool, buying SEMrush will be blowing your budget.
- Keyword research tools aren’t found in the same place – I personally don’t like the way keyword research features like “Keyword Gap” and position tracking are scattered across the platform. This might be a nitpick, but I believe it can affect the experience of users, particularly beginners.
3. Ahrefs
I consider Ahrefs to be the ultimate rival of SEMrush.
Ahrefs can pretty much do what SEMrush can in terms of keyword research and SEO analytics. Even their price tags look similar when compared next to each other.
How to use Ahrefs for keyword research
Just like SEMrush, Ahrefs is a fully loaded platform.
To do some keyword research, you need to switch to the Keywords Explorer tool from the top-level menu.
That’s where you can initiate keyword research by typing in your seed keywords.
After entering your seed keywords, Ahrefs will start with an in-depth keyword overview page. But if you want keyword ideas, you need to click a link under “Keyword ideas.”
This will bring up a list of keywords based on your choice.
For example, if you clicked the ‘Phrase match’ link, here’s the list you’ll get using the keyword “posture brace.”
Ahrefs Pros
- All-In-One SEO Platform – As I was saying, Ahrefs can do mostly everything SEMrush can. You can find competitor keywords, check backlink profiles, track rankings, find content ideas – everything you need for your SEO campaign.
- Consolidated keyword research interface – Keywords Explorer looks and feels like its own keyword research platform – not just a side feature. Everything you need for keyword research will be found on one page and organized under one menu.
- Check multiple services – Ahrefs is one of the few platforms that can do keyword research on different services, including YouTube, Baidu, and Yandex. This is perfect for bloggers who want to build a presence not just on Google, but other services as well.
- Ahrefs SEO Toolbar – If you want to do basic SEO analysis on websites and search engines, try installing the Ahrefs SEO Toolbar. It automatically grabs important SEO metrics like total keywords, number of backlinks, estimated organic traffic, and the “Ahrefs Rank” metric.
Ahrefs Cons
- Also pricey – Ahrefs is undeniably a great SEO tool, but thanks to its pricing, it’s not for everybody. They don’t even have a free trial – you need to pay $7 for seven days of access.
- Minor issue when entering domains – For some reason, you can get inaccurate traffic data for adding “www” using the Site Explorer tool. Removing “www” when entering URLs quickly fixes the issue, but it can definitely throw new users off.
4. SpyFu
SpyFu is a keyword research platform specifically designed for competitive keyword research.
It can show you keywords shared by multiple competitors, unravel in-depth insights on their organic presence, and many more.
How to use SpyFu for keyword research
Since SpyFu focuses on competitor research, the best way to use it is by entering a competitor’s website.
In an instant, you can view data like their estimated monthly organic clicks, SEO keywords, competitors, and organic ranking history.
There’s so much important information on your competitors – you may actually feel dirty using it!
Of course, SpyFu also allows you to do traditional keyword research using seed keywords as a starting point.
You just need to switch to the ‘Keyword Research’ tab and start from there.

- Powerful competitor research features – SpyFu is a top-notch SEO platform when it comes to competitor research. Everything you need to know about your competitor, you can learn with SpyFu.
- AdWords Advisor – SpyFu analyzes paid search listings and sifts out the most successful keywords. This can give bloggers who want to launch an ad campaign the edge over competitors.
- Easy SEO and PPC reports – You can use SpyFu’s assisted report builder to quickly build beautiful and insightful reports. It only takes a few minutes to fill out the forms and you’re all set.
- Fast and smooth user experience – Based on my experience, SpyFu is arguably the fastest tool in terms of gathering competitor and keyword data. It’s not a drastic difference from top alternatives like SEMrush, but it’s noticeable enough to affect the tool’s usability.

Ubersuggest used to be my favorite free keyword research tool.
Not only is it easy to use, it’s also reliable in terms of generating long-tail keyword suggestions.
It’s worth mentioning that Ubersuggest is no longer free, which is why my attention shifted to more powerful tools. On the bright side, it now comes with a bundle of new features, like backlink analysis and site audits.
How to use Ubersuggest for keyword research
You can start using Ubersuggest by typing in a seed keyword or domain.
Ubersuggest will then take you to an overview page with basic keyword metrics.
To check for keyword suggestions, click ‘Keyword Ideas’ under the “Keyword Analyzer” menu section.

- Modern and streamlined user interface – Ubersuggest is owned and managed by Neil Patel – a believer of creating positive user experiences. As such, you can bet that Ubersuggest’s design is continually optimized for usability.
- Keywords and content ideas on one page – Another thing that makes Ubersuggest’s interface great is the consolidated report page for keywords and content ideas. This makes it easier for bloggers to translate keyword suggestions into blog topics that readers will be thankful for.
- Advanced SEO tools – Now that Ubersuggest is a paid tool, it’s developed with additional SEO tools that will help you attain high rankings. There’s SEO Explorer for backlink analysis, Competitor Reports for competitor research, and more.
Ubersuggest Cons
- Not as in-depth as other tools – While Ubersuggest provides important keyword data like search volume, CPC, and difficulty, it’s not as complete as other tools.
