Here’s the thing: the internet is filled with SEO tools.
Sure enough, there are great ones like SEMrush and SpyFu.
But there are also hundreds of tools that are unreliable, outdated, or simply too expensive for their own good.
In this post, we’ll check out Keyword Revealer – what it actually does and whether it’s worth your attention.

What is Keyword Revealer?
As the name suggests, Keyword Revealer is built and marketed as a keyword research tool. But it’s also equipped for other areas of SEO, like:
- Competitor analysis
- Backlink analysis
- Rank tracking
- Domain name research
To see if Keyword Revealer deserves your investment, let’s do a deep dive into its features.
How to Use Keyword Revealer
First and foremost, Keyword Revealer has one of the cleanest and fastest user interfaces I’ve ever seen.
I praised the tool’s usability factor in this article. And after revisiting the tool, I proudly stand by my statement.
Here – let’s take a closer look:
Doing Keyword Research with Keyword Revealer
You can’t write a Keyword Revealer review without talking about its keyword research features.
The ‘Keyword Search’ tab on the “Keyword Research” page is where the magic happens.
You can start by entering a seed keyword, setting a database location, and picking a language.
With these fields ready, click ‘Search’ and let the tool do its job.
For example, suppose you want to find keyword ideas for “baby care.”
Keyword Revealer will start you off with a list of keyword suggestions:
As expected from a top keyword research tool, keyword suggestions also come with important keyword metrics.
You can analyze each keyword’s average search volume, trend chart, average CPC, difficulty, and so on.
Another way to use Keyword Revealer is to check the keywords of an existing page or website.
Going back to the search bar, select ‘URL’ from the left drop-down menu.
A good use case for this is spying on the top keywords of your competitors.
For the sake of this review, let’s say What to Expect is your primary competitor.
To look at their biggest keywords, enter their domain URL, and click ‘Search.’
Keyword Revealer will do the rest by presenting a list of keywords they currently rank for.
Take note that you can also check the keywords of individual pages.
In which case, all you need to do is enter the complete page URL into the search bar.
This will give you more specific keyword ideas if you intend to publish content similar to your competitor.

Evaluating The Keyword Difficulty and More Advanced Metrics
Keyword Revealer automatically reveals the keyword difficulty rating of some keywords, but there’s a slight hiccup.
Some of these ratings could be outdated.
In some cases, you’ll even find keyword difficulty ratings that were updated two years ago.
The good news is, you can easily update these ratings by clicking on them.
Doing so will take you to a comprehensive report page with more in-depth keyword data.
That, of course, includes the keyword difficulty rating.
It should only take a few seconds for Keyword Revealer to pull up the updated numbers.
Apart from keyword difficulty, Keyword Revealer will also show you other bits of useful information for analyzing the competition.
Here are some of the most useful data you’ll find there:
- Historical search volume – You can analyze the keyword’s search volume over the past 12 months to identify if it’s seasonal or trendy. This will help you determine the best time to optimize for them or if they have evergreen value.
- On-page optimization strategies of top 10 results – Keyword Revealer analyzes the on-page optimization strategies of the top 10 results for a keyword. You can tell how many of them have keyword-optimized URLs, page titles, headings, and meta descriptions.
- Average Page Authority and Domain Authority – Page Authority measures the rank-worthiness of individual pages, whereas Domain Authority measures the rank-worthiness of entire websites. Keyword Revealer checks the top results’ average PA and DA, letting you know if you can outrank them or not.
- Average word count – If you want to outperform the top-ranking pages, you should aim to match or exceed the average word count. Focus on adding more useful information rather than fluff that offers no value to readers.
Remember, you can run the same analysis on keywords that don’t have their keyword difficulty rating right off the bat.
Just click the ‘Evaluate’ button to get the updated value within seconds.
Do this whenever you find a potential target keyword from the list of suggestions. In turn, you can gauge whether or not it’s practical to optimize for it.
With the steps above, you can now use Keyword Revealer to build a sizeable keyword list.
The next step is to locate the keyword opportunities you should be targeting.
Refining Your Keyword List
One of the main challenges of keyword research is narrowing down your keyword list.
With Keyword Revealer, you have several options to overcome this challenge.
If you’re prioritizing a particular keyword metric, click on its column header to sort the results accordingly.
This is the quickest way to get keyword ideas that match your preferences.
Keyword Revealer also has a filter tool you can use to sift out the keywords you need.
To use filters, click the ‘Filter’ drop-down menu.
You can filter keywords based on included terms, excluded terms, word count, average monthly searches, and more.
All you have to do is to enter your preferred terms and values into the appropriate fields.
Filters let you reduce a pool of thousands of keywords into a much smaller bunch.
You can even target keywords with specific search intent.
For example, if you want to sell affiliate products in the “baby care” niche, you need keywords with transactional intent.
These are keywords that prospective customers will use on search engines – possibly containing terms like “best,” “products,” “offers,” and “price.”
Using filters, you can tell Keyword Revealer to specifically look for keyword suggestions with these terms.
Just type them into the “Keyword Search” field separated by commas.
Don’t forget to create other filters to further refine your keyword list.
To help you with that, here’s a quick rundown of the other filter options:
- Number of Words – Use this filter to find keywords with a specific length. If you want to look for long-tail keywords, set the minimum word count to three.
- Average monthly searches – This filter lets you scoop up keywords that get a certain amount of monthly searches. Use it to find keywords that can help bring traffic to your blog.
- Keyword Exclude – Keyword Revealer also lets you exclude keyword suggestions that contain specific terms. This can help you hide keyword suggestions that aren’t useful to you, like keywords with a competitor’s product name.
- Cost Per Click – The CPC metric measures the average amount advertisers are willing to pay for clicks coming from a keyword. It can give you an idea of how effective the keyword is at drawing in potential customers.
- Estimated Potential Earning – Lastly, the estimated potential earning filter will help you find highly profitable keywords in advertising campaigns. This is based on factors like the average monthly volume and CPC of keywords.
Another thing I love about Keyword Revealer’s filter system is that it updates your keyword list in real time.
That way, you can immediately tell if your filters will get good keyword suggestions or not.
If they do, it might be a good idea to save your list for later.
Exporting Your Keyword List
When doing keyword research, it’s crucial that you export your keyword list for later access.
Keyword Revealer makes this easy with the ‘Download CSV’ button.
You get to decide if you want to save all keywords, only the evaluated keywords, or only the filtered keywords.
Simply click ‘Evaluated,’ ‘All,’ or ‘Filtered’ to lock in your choice.
If you’re still not ready to export your keyword list, you can click ‘Save Project’ and crunch the numbers later.
Once saved, you can access your keyword list by switching to the ‘Saved Searches’ tab.
You can resume working by clicking the magnifying glass icon next to your saved search.
Easy, right?
You see, that’s exactly why I recommend Keyword Revealer.
Things like keyword filters, finding long-tail keywords, and exporting keyword lists don’t have to be complicated.
Keyword Revealer trims all the fat that other keyword research tools add to their process.
I can tell that the developers put a lot of thought into designing Keyword Revealer’s user interface.
Most features can be used with just a few clicks. And while you need to wait for certain tasks, like evaluating keyword difficulty, it’ll only be a few seconds tops.
Additional Keyword Revealer Keyword Research Features
Below are some additional Keyword Revealer features you can use for keyword research:
- Manually delete keywords from your list – When building your keyword list, you can manually delete keywords you don’t need. You only need to tick the checkbox before each keyword and click ‘Delete Rows.’
- Check for exact match domain names – Keyword Revealer has this cool feature that checks the availability of exact match domain names for keyword suggestions. Just click ‘Check Domains’ and the tool will show if the “.com,” “.net,” or “.org” exact match domain is available.
- Investigate the social presence of top results – Want to know how the top pages utilize social media? Keyword Revealer can help you by showing the number of social media shares each page has.
- Import keywords – If you obtained keyword ideas from another tool, you can easily import them into Keyword Revealer. This allows you to check the metrics of keywords acquired from free tools like AnswerThePublic or AdWords Keyword Planner.
That’s it – you now know how to build a nice list of potential target keywords using Keyword Revealer.
But hold on to your wallet for now.
Keyword Revealer still has a few more tricks up its sleeve.
Spying on Competitors
Want to find keyword ideas that are guaranteed to bring traffic and conversions?
Why beat yourself up doing research when you can steal keyword ideas from competitors?
Keyword Revealer can give you a peek at your top competitor’s keyword strategy.
To start, click ‘Competitive Analysis’ from the main menu.
With the ‘Competitor Insights’ tab selected, type in the URL of the competitor you want to spy on.
This time, let’s pretend that Moz is your top competitor.
After running the search, you’ll see a detailed report page with all sorts of important website data.
This includes the site’s median load time, number of referring links, Alexa Rank, and industry.
If you want to outrank your competitor, use these numbers as benchmarks for your own website.
However, they’re not the reason we came here.
What we want are lucrative keyword ideas – ripe for the picking.
“Borrowing” Keyword Ideas From Competitors
You can find your competitor’s keywords by scrolling down to the “Site Keywords” section.
Just like an original keyword list, these keywords come with their own set of metrics.
These metrics, however, are different than what you’ll see through regular keyword research.
Here are brief explanations for each metric:
- Search Traffic – Don’t confuse this for the total number of searches each keyword gets. This actually measures how much traffic the keyword generates for your competitor as compared to all other keywords.
- Share of Voice – This metric measures the organic traffic share your competitor gets for this keyword. A higher value means they’re getting more clicks from the keyword’s monthly search volume.
- Popularity – The “Popularity” metric is based on the number of searches each keyword generates. You can use this metric to find priority keywords that will help you generate tons of traffic.
- Traffic Organic – “Traffic Organic” is a unique metric used to estimate the traffic share a website gets from a keyword. But unlike “Share of Voice,” it is a relative measure between websites that get traffic from the same keyword.
- Competition Organic – This particular metric is basically a version of the keyword difficulty rating. It’s based on the number of organic results a keyword generates on search engines.
- Impressions Paid – “Impressions Paid” is based on the number of impressions a website gets for ad clicks through a keyword. A higher rating indicates that a website is investing more in paid advertising than organic link building.
- Competition Paid – As the name suggests, “Competition Paid” rates the keyword’s level of competition in paid ad campaigns. As far as paid ads go, lower ratings mean you don’t have a lot of competitors for that keyword.
Keyword Revealer’s competitive analysis feature is capable of snagging truckloads of competitor keywords in one go.
Fortunately, there are easy ways to organize these keywords and find the ones you need.
Refining Your Competitor Keyword List
Keyword Revealer lets you sort competitor keywords by simply clicking the header for metric columns.
To get better keyword suggestions, use filters by clicking the ‘Filter Table’ button.
You can find it in the upper-right corner of the “Site Keywords” section.
Next, configure filters by filling up the fields you want to use.
If you paid attention to my explanation earlier, you should already know how these filter options work.
As soon as you modify the value of any filter, Keyword Revealer will instantly refresh the results.
If you’re happy with your competitor keyword ideas, remember to save your list.
You can do this using the convenient ‘Download CSV’ button just above the competitor keyword list.
What’s that – you haven’t found good competitor keyword ideas yet?
You may get potential keyword ideas faster by analyzing multiple competitors at once.
Finding Competitor Keywords Faster with “Competitor Gap”
Keyword Revealer has a secret weapon for those who want to steal keyword ideas from competitors.
By switching to the ‘Competitor Gap’ tab, the competitive analysis tool will allow you to enter multiple URLs at once.
To run a competitor gap analysis, enter the URLs of the competitors you want to get keyword ideas from.
Take note that a minimum of two URLs is required in order for the tool to work.
Just like that, you’re looking at a consolidated list of potential keywords from multiple competitors.
Of course, you still need to comb through the list to find potential target keywords.
Thankfully, you have all the tools you need to breeze through this process.
You can either use filters or sort the keywords according to your preferred metric.
That’s about it for Keyword Revealer’s competitive analysis capabilities.
Additional Keyword Revealer Competitive Analysis Features
There are a few more things I’d like to mention about Keyword Revealer’s competitive analysis tool:
- Segment users by country – Keyword Revealer gives you a breakdown of your competitor’s audience by country. This could lead to local SEO opportunities where you can possibly outrank them.
- Historical competitor performance – The competitive analysis report page contains your competitor’s historical performance data. You can examine their Alexa Rank, page views per user, page views per million, and reach per million over time.
- Other competitors by similarity – You can also use the competitive analysis tool to discover even more competitors to spy on. It lists down other websites that are optimized for the same keywords and attract the same visitors.
For more ways to spy on your competitors’ keywords, read my full guide here.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still important to learn proper keyword research and build a strategy tailored to you.
But with competitor research, you can get keyword ideas that are guaranteed to bring traffic – be it organic or paid. And to make sure you’re getting positive results, you need to learn how to track your rankings.
Using The Rank Tracker
Tracking results is a critical aspect of SEO or anything related to digital marketing for that matter.
How else can you tell if your strategies are working?
With Keyword Revealer’s rank tracker, you can monitor your keyword rankings for all your websites in one place.
To get started, head to the “Rank Tracker” page from the main dashboard.
If this is your first time firing up the rank tracker, you’ll be taken to an empty page.
Go ahead and click ‘Add New Tracking Project’ to begin.
On the next page, give your tracking project a name and then paste the keywords you want to track.
These should be the keywords you’re currently optimizing for.
Of course, don’t forget to type in your domain and set your target database location as well as search language.
After you fill in the required information, click ‘Add New Search’ to save your tracker.
The whole step should take less than a minute to complete, especially if you already have your keyword list ready.
Right after building your tracker, you can monitor important keyword data such as their monthly searches and CPC.
Soon, you’ll also be able to monitor your current and best rankings for each keyword.
However, you do need to give Keyword Revealer some time to collect enough data.
While you wait, I suggest creating rank trackers for your other websites and competitors.
Setting up trackers with Keyword Revealer will give you a bird’s-eye view of the competition.
Done right, it will let you know if any of your current SEO strategies are bringing higher rankings.
At the same time, it’ll help you monitor the SEO campaigns of competitors.
If you notice that they’re getting higher rankings, check out their latest pieces of content and backlinks earned. That should give you a clear idea of what to do next to outrank them.
Speaking of backlinks, Keyword Revealer also has a backlink analysis tool worth mentioning.
Analyzing A Website’s Backlink Profile
Keyword Revealer has a backlink analysis tool that will help you dissect the backlink profile of any website.
You can fire it up by clicking ‘Backlink Analysis’ from the main dashboard menu.
From there, you need to type in the URL of the domain or page you want to analyze.
For example, let’s say you’re a successful food blogger and Pinch of Yum is one of your main competitors.
To check their backlink profile, type in their domain URL into the main field.
Here’s a tip: consider enabling the “one link per referring domain” option.
This will eliminate duplicate referring domains or backlink sources from the results.
As a result, you’ll end up with a clean and organized list of potential backlink sources for your blog.
Searching For Potential Backlink Sources
After running the analysis, Keyword Revealer will show you a list of all domains that link to Pinch of Yum.
By default, the report page will show you 10 referring domains at a time. You can either tweak this setting or check out the next pages for more referring domains.
If you need more backlinks, simply click ‘Load More.’
This will prompt Keyword Revealer to fetch 50 more backlinks in a flash.
You’ll also find metrics that summarize your competitor’s backlink profile on the report page.
“Total Backlinks,” for example, can give you an idea of how much your competitor has invested in link building.
You can run a backlink analysis on your own website and compare the numbers side-by-side with a competitor. This will allow you to assess if you’re ready to compete for the same target keywords.
Now – on to the backlinks.
Using Metrics To Evaluate Referring Domains
Keyword Revealer will help you plan which referring domains to prioritize through metrics.
From the report page alone, you can look at a handful of metrics that gauge each domain’s ranking power. This includes each domain’s Trust Flow, Alexa Rank, and number of external links from each page.
Next to these numbers, you’ll find lines of text below the “Anchor” column.
Let me explain what they’re all about.
Checking Anchor Texts
Keyword Revealer also identifies the anchor text used by each referring domain.
This pertains to the string of text that contains the actual hyperlink to the website you’re analyzing.
In the example above, you’ll notice that four of the backlinks shown have “Pinch of Yum” as the anchor text. Another backlink, on the other hand, uses the anchor text “Lindsay @ Pinch of Yum.”
These are also referred to as “branded anchor texts,” which are naturally created and are useful for building brand recognition.
Looking at your competitor’s backlink anchor texts will tell you a lot about their link building strategy.
If they used branded anchor texts, that means they’re focusing on building brand recognition. It’s also likely that those backlinks are naturally acquired, which isn’t surprising for popular websites.
If they’re getting keyword-optimized anchor texts, those backlinks are most likely intentionally built. That means your competitor has invested in link building campaigns to boost the rankings of specific pages.
Of course, there are other types of anchor texts that your competitors may be using:
- Naked link anchor texts – These are anchor texts that use the full URL of the page being linked.
- Generic anchor texts – Links with generic anchor texts like “click here” and “read this” can help increase click-throughs.
- Combination anchor texts – There are also websites that combine their brand name and target keyword in backlink anchor texts.
Whatever your competitors are doing, their high rankings indicate they’re doing something right.
That’s why it’s important to look at what they’ve been up to lately.
This leads us to the next Keyword Revealer feature.
Looking At New and Lost Links
To see what backlinks your competitor has acquired lately, head to the ‘New Links’ tab.
Just remember that you’ll need to enter the domain address again when switching between modes.
Looking at your competitor’s new backlinks lets you find new potential link sources.
This can help you keep up with their SEO efforts by acquiring links from the same sources or somewhere comparable.
Finally, you can switch to the ‘Lost Links’ tab to find referring domains that recently removed links.
Looking at lost links is useful for two reasons.
One, it can help you connect with websites that used to link to your competitor. If the link’s just broken, you can tell them about it and point them to your content instead.
And two, it can help you reclaim broken or deleted links that point to your website.
Just be sure to handpick the referring domains you reach out to.
Look at metrics like Trust Flow and Alexa Rank to determine if it’s worth building backlinks from those referring domains.
Why is Backlink Analysis Important?
Keep in mind that optimizing for keywords is just the first step towards a high-ranking page.
To get noticed by search engines, you need to build quality backlinks from authoritative websites.
Keyword Revealer helps by identifying websites that can provide you with such links.
That, to me, is enough to make Keyword Revealer twice as valuable as an SEO tool.
You can check out this guide for 31 ways to build backlinks from authoritative domains.

Keyword Revealer Cons
- The backlink analysis tool can be better – When doing backlink analysis, you need to enter the domain again when switching tabs. It’ll be better if we can switch between new links, lost links, and all links without running the search again.
- Keyword difficulty should be updated from the get-go – I really wish Keyword Revealer automatically uses the updated keyword difficulty ratings for keywords. That would’ve made it easier to scan the keyword list for profitable keyword ideas.
- No basic metrics for competitive analysis – I know that Keyword Revealer uses unique metrics for its competitive analysis tool. However, it would be better if you can instantly check the search volume and CPC of competitor keywords.
- Minor bugs – When using Keyword Revealer, I came across a few minor bugs that will probably be patched in future updates. Examples include the error message when loading saved searches and the bug in which running a competitor analysis does nothing.
